The 2nd generation Apple TV comes fully AirPlay compatible from streaming all your media content to, either from your iTunes library or from your iOS device (Apple friendly content that is). Apple TV gives you much more than that though as it gives you direct access to movie rentals etc through iTunes.

Apple AirPort Express
The AirPort Express Base Station from Apple is an accessory that will allow you to make your current sound system AirPlay enabled (or at least to a degreee) as it connects to you home network, and to your sound system through 3.5mm audio cable. As far as i know it can only be used to stream audio.
With an AirPort Express and the latest software upgrade from Sonos you can amongst other make the Sonos Zoneplayer Airplay compatible.
