We already knew that Philips had new AirPlay speakers in the pipeline as i earlier reported on the Fidelio DS8800 which comes in addition to the Fidelio Soundsphere DS9800W which we have known about for a while now. Philips however had more planned as there are now a total of 5 AirPlay enabled systems in the Fidelio range.
These are the new Philips Fidelio AirPlay speakers:
Philips Fidelio Soundsphere DS6800
Is almost the same system as the DS9800W baring a physical docking station and it does not have quite the same punch as its big brother. There are also some slight changes to the enclosure, with this model featuring brushed aluminum. Expected US retail price is $499, so UK price is likely going to be around the £400 mark.
Philips Fidelio DS8800
With the more traditional Fidelio speaker dock design, with the exception of a physical docking station, the DS8800 tabletop designed speakers feature 2 x 15W RMS with neodymium drivers and back firing bass pipes. Retail price is expected at $399 with a possible UK price around £300.
Philips Fidelio DS3881W
A brand new circular design with four front firing drivers and bass port, the DS3881W is a portable AirPlay system with built in rechargeable lithium ion battery. The speakers connect to their base/charging station using magnets. This is definitely an interesting new design that is likely to become popular amongst those of us looking at alternative designs and uniqueness. Retail price is expected at $329 in the US and likely somewhere between £250-300 for the UK market.
Philips Fidelio AD700W
A one piece system with two speakers and 10W RMS, it is the lowest priced unit in the Philips AirPlay family with an expected retail price at $229 (around £200 for the UK).

All of the new Philips AirPlay systems are likely to be in the market by the end of the year, with most of them scheduled for September release.

Teac announces AirPlay systems to include new NS-X1 speaker dock
Teac has given us some outstanding speaker docks over the years, including the iconic Teac Aurb SR-100i, and now they have announced that they too are embracing the future of audio streaming; Apple Airplay.
According to information available they are releasing their first AirPlay product in the very near future, the CR-H700 CD receiver which will support streaming through both AirPlay as well as DLNA + USB support for additional audio sources. Power output from this system is two-channels of 40W each.
As for AirPlay speaker docks, they have announced a September arrival for the new Teac NS-X1 speaker dock, a slimline speaker dock that can also be wall mounted and supports a multi-room set up if you want to build further on the system. The NS-X1 is reported to be retailing at £279 when it arrives on the UK market later this year, and it will also support DLNA in addition to AirPlay streaming.
The third Teac AirPlay product announced will form part of a family of products to come in the same design format, and is a DAC system called UD H01 DAC.

Philips reveals second AirPlay speaker in Fidelio DS8800
According to a wall post on the Philips Sound Facebook page the company is ready to launch their second Airplay speaker towards the end of this year in the Philips Fidelio DS8800.
After posting a note talking about their Airplay speaker range questions where raised if there is more than one, to which they replied that the second Airplay speaker in the Fidelio DS8800 will arrive by the end of the year, and to "watch this space".
Hopefully the coming Fidelio DS8800 will continue along the lines of the rest of the Fidelio range, perhaps delivering a system that can compete with the B&W Zeppelin Air when it comes to value for money.

Philips Fidelio Soundsphere listed on Amazon UK
Philips are pushing their Fidelio speaker docks quite heavily these days, having signed up former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher to front their marketing, and they are featured quite heavily on Amazon UK as well, including the listing for the Fidelio Soundsphere Airplay speaker.

Philips have with the announcement of the Fidelio Soundsphere AirPlay taken their Fidelio range of speakers to the next Apple level by adding support for Apple AirPlay.
The Fidelio Soundsphere is not a traditional speaker dock, like its cousins the Fidelio DS9000 for example or one of its main competitors, the B&W Zeppelin Air. Instead you get two stylish cone shaped speaker units with standout flower protruding tweeters to go along with the docking station itself.
The wi-fi enabled Soundsphere system brings full AirPlay support, although from what i can tell there is no screen displaying sound information (not that you really need it when you have the iPhone/iPad in your hand). As usual the docking station is a nice addition as you can always dock your device for charging.

AirPlay car stereos: where are they?
I have to admit that i'm not the most patient of people and generally want something before it is available, but AirPlay has been around for almost a year now, and yet there very few systems on the market, and none for car stereo.
In my opinion Airplay should be a perfect fit for car stereo systems, bypassing all those stupid cables needed to connect your iPod/iPhone, and with no need to have a docking station attached. All i would have to do then would be choose the car stereo system as the AirPlay device and Bob's your uncle. I want that, and i want it now!
For a short time it looked like one solution would be the Photofast AP1000 but that seems to have fizzled out as well.
So what is holding the audio industry back from delivering Airplay systems for car stereo; is it a matter of cost and licensing with Apple? or is it a driving security issue (which i can't see any arguments for)? Pershaps if anyone in the industry is reading this they could share some insight with the rest of us, that are un-patiently waiting for wireless audio streaming in the car to arrive.

Airplay on Windows Media Center
Apparently by using a free add-in that works together with the Apple bonjour service you can now enable AirPlay through Windows Media Center, but for now only for video and photo streaming.
It is Pocket-lint that is reporting the story as the person behind the add-in got in touch with them with the breaking story. As mentioned at the moment the service does not support music, but it looks like that will be in the cards soon as well.
The add-in is in the beta stages at the moment, but if you want to try it you can download it from madeformediacenter.com and it is a free download.

White JBL On Air Airplay speaker available through John Lewis
The second true Airplay speaker dock to be launched into the UK market, the JBL On Air Airplay dock is now available from John Lewis in white color.
So far the UK has had limited access to Airplay speaker docks, with the exception of the B&W Zeppelin Air which was launched back in March and is the flagship of speaker docks, regardless of AirPlay or not, but priced at the higher end at close to £500.
The JBL On Air speaker dock to be fair can not be compared directly to the Zeppelin Air, despite its unique circle design, it is lacking that same sophistication that follows the Zeppelin. Don't get me wrong, the JBL On Air is still a good speaker dock that with its size will easily fit into any room or setting.
JBL has also done a good job with the On Air speaker to make the most out of the design in terms of sound experience, adding the 360-degree HALO (horizontal acoustic level optimization) for a room wide music experience.

Denon AirPlay upgrade: How to upgrade your Denon to AirPlay
Yesterday i wrote about some of the exciting new Denon AV Airplay receivers that are coming onto the UK market in to coming month or so, but if you own any of the below AV receivers from Denon you can also upgrade these to support AirPlay.

Denon launching AirPlay enabled AV receivers for 2011
The newly announced range of 2011 AV receivers from Denon consist of 5 different models, with 3 of them being AirPlay enabled.
Denon's new AV receivers are expected to start coming onto the market this month, and besides the 3 models that are AirPlay enabled, all of them will support 3D pass-through, which has been made standard by Denon.
The Denon AV receiver models that feature Apple AirPlay technology are: AVR-1912, AVR-2312, and AVR-3312. In addition to AirPlay these receivers also support DLNA for streaming other file formats (audio and photo) from a computer or NAS device.
The top Airplay model from Denon will have 165w per channel and will come with an extra HDMI output. UK price is yet to be confirmed for this top model.
All of the AirPlay models from Denon AV receiver range is expected out in June. I will be back with more information and where to buy when it becomes available.
These will surely be much welcomed in the AirPlay AV receiver market.
